Since the summer of 2018, a Municipal enterprise (“Obecný podnik”) has been operating in the village, focusing on the production of folk costumes. Not only has it managed to stimulate a long-standing tradition, but it also helps to preserve the same for future generations. The main activity of the craft workshop is the sewing of folk costumes and costume components while adhering to the original production technologies. The costumes in the workshop are made of traditional materials such as broadcloth, linen, and cotton. They are decorated with hand- or machine-made embroidery, various folk ribbons, and ornaments. The costumes are sewn on the basis of preserved documentation (e. g. period photographs), or real-life models. The sewing of folklore-themed clothes is complemented by the production of (also folklore-themed) accessories, with the production of woven carpets planned in the future.
When the municipal company was established, the mayor of Rejdová, Mrs. Slávka Krišťáková, was who will be happy to take you through the whole village. When you see her communicating with the locals, you’ll start to feel like she is their own mother. She’ll praise or chastise the young and the old alike. Every year, the mayor participates in the preparation of the largest folklore festival in the Košice region and, in order to maintain the tradition in this part of the region, works closely with local craftsmen. The craft workshop is also planning to host workshops for children and young people in the future, focusing on folk crafts.
