Thanks to its excellent soil and climatic features, the Zemplén region has long been one of the most popular vine-growing and wine-making areas. Vineyards have lined the path of travellers for ages. Vine-growing, wine-making and wine tastings – these are the main elements of our weekend programme.

  • Day 1: Tokaj – Bodrog – Mád
A visit to Tokaj without tasting wine is like going to Rome without seeing the Pope, the saying goes. The programme starts with a walk in the town centre, where you get to know the most famous buildings of Tokaj and the most important historical figures connected to the city and Tokaj-Hegyalja. At the end of the walk you'll take a small gauge train to the Cellars of Love. Why Love? You'll get an answer to this during the walk... A cellar excursion and a heavenly wine tasting of 3 wines will close the programme. Lunch at LaBor Bistro in Tokaj. Then you can will enjoy the wines of Szedmák Cellar as you sail along the Bodrog River. After the pleasant trip you set out on a vineyard tour. Climbing up along Kövesd vineyard above the row of cellars, you can enjoy a wonderful panorama with the Bodrog, the Zemplén Mountains, the Saint Theresa Chapel and so-called Bald Hill of Tokaj. During the vineyard tour, the wine tasting is made complete with interesting facts about Tarcal and winemakers' stories. You will have dinner at the First Mád Winery in Mád.

  • Day 2: Erdőbénye - Hercegkút -Sárospatak -Tokai
A full-day trip following the route of the wine. In Erdőbénye, you'll stop by the cooper's workshop to learn about the trade of barrel making. Then you'll take a photo break in Hercegkút at the spectacular row of cellars. Lunch at Boros restaurant in Sárospatak, then you'll cross the border over to Slovakia's Tokai region. The Ostrozovic Estate offers a vineyard walk, an educational tour of wines, wine-tasting and dinner. Returning to your accommodation in the evening, you will have the opportunity to open a bottle of wine on the terrace, on sale in the mini-shop of the house offering local products. On a nice, clear evening, you can also enjoy the view of Boldogkő's illuminated castle.

  • Day 3:  Boldogkőváralja - Abaújszántó – Mád - Tarcal
In the morning you can lose yourself in the picture book of Hungarian history and wine-making carved in the volcanic tuff, as well as local wines, at Terra Experience Cellar in Boldogkőváralja. In Abaújszántó, you'll make a stop at Zimmermann wine bar for a tasting and a barbecue lunch. Optional: Locally made artisan cheese accompanies the wine tasting in Mád. The beautiful renovated Baroque synagogue of Mád awaits its visitors. After lunch you'll travel to nearby Tarcal. The most monumental attraction of Tokaj wine region is the enormous Christ Statue on the hill above Tarcal. Hiking up to the top of the hill, you can enjoy the fantastic 360-degree panorama of the region. The most spectacular view opens towards the mine lake of stunning location. We'll stop at Kikelet İzműhely to taste wine and cakes, where our program ends with a visit to the estate.
